Description

This rare species is summer deciduous with foliage and flowers emerging in winter continuing through Spring. Helleborus torquatus grows wild in and around open woodlands in mountainous areas of the Balkan countries. This species is by nature quite variable. Flower shape, colour and habit can be distinctly different. Ranging from green, streaked burgundy and purple to almost black. Simple single to elaborate doubles similar in appearance to hepatica.
