Description

An interspecific hybrid, being the product of crossing Helleborus niger with Helleborus x sternii (another interspecific hybrid and a fun fact to share at parties…) This cross was originally developed by… you guessed it Mr Eric Smith. These plants like other crosses closely related to H. niger are celebrated for their upright stems and outward facing flowers. Flowers very similar to H. x ballardiae in form and colour however this cross features the serrated foliage from H. x sternii (originally adopted from H. argutifolius… confused much?). A very pretty plant with similar care requirements to H. niger. Again this is generally a sterile hybrid and will not self seed freely in the garden. These can also feature interesting veining in the foliage dependent on their parentage. Flower colour is generally ivory at emergence, developing through dusky pink and green at different stages.
